The Gilded Age returns

Sunday, November 1

9 p.m.

The glamour, intrigue, and social rivalries of HBO's The Gilded Age return for a fourth season!

While the series brings 1880s New York society to life, its history has fascinating ties to the Hudson Valley. Long before the Gilded Age, the Livingstons were among New York's most influential families, with a legacy of wealth, political power, and grand estates.

Discover more about these connections at our Chancellor's Open House at Midwood on November 4!

Geology Walk with Robert Titus

Saturday, November 7

10 a.m. - noon

Join Professor Robert Titus for a geology walk at Clermont State Historic Site. The geology of Clermont dates back 450 million years. The bedrock rising east of the mansion used to be at the bottom of a marine abyss.

But there’s more geology here. The mansion lies on a thick sequence of silt and clay that was once the bottom of Glacial Lake Albany, which extended up and down the Hudson Valley. All this geology provided the Clermont estate with a scenic setting for its buildings.

This event is free, but visitors must register in advance. This tour involves standing and walking on uneven surfaces. Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
