When the Marquis de Lafayette launched his farewell tour in 1824, one of the stops on his 6,000 mile journey was Clermont.
We are delighted to share that we have a new Lafayette Trail sign commemorating the Marquis de Lafayette’s September 1824 visit. A dedication ceremony for this new marker took place in June as part of a Lafayette250 function, honoring Lafayette's contributions to American freedom as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Lafayette250 is the first nationwide effort celebrating the semiquincentennial of Lafayette's historic participation in the American Revolution.
We are grateful to Clermont State Historic Site, The Lafayette Trail, Lafayette250, and Germantown History Department for being a part of this special occasion.
Have you seen our new The Lafayette Trail sign? Next time you visit, you can find it overlooking the river on the farm road between the parking lot and the Arryl House ruins.
