About the Event

Cornelia Livingston’s sewing table is one of the most eye-catching pieces in Clermont’s  collection. Join us for an in-depth discussion on the material history and the systems of labor  and industry hidden beneath the surface of this beautiful mother-of-pearl and papier-mâché  piece from the mid-nineteenth century.

This lecture will cover the origins of papier-mâché and lacquer work furniture before diving into the history of the pearling industry before and throughout the industrial revolution.

Please note: The cost of the event is $5 per person, please be prepared to pay at the door.  Space is limited. Visitors must register in advance.
