Make
Your Own History at Clermont
Since
the eighteenth century this historic Hudson River estate —
home to seven generations of the prominent Livingston family —
has hosted scores of engagement parties, weddings and wedding
receptions.
Janet Livingston, eldest daughter of Judge Robert and Margaret
Beekman Livingston, exchanged vows with the valiant General Richard
Montgomery in the drawing room of the manor house in July 1773.
After
Elizabeth Livingston married Dr. Edward Hunter Ludlow in 1833
the couple moved into Clermont’s gatehouse, establishing
its tradition as the place where newly married members of the
Livingston family spent their first days together.
The last Livingston family wedding reception took place at Clermont
on September 12, 1931. Honoria Livingston and her husband, Rex
McVitty, were toasted on the lush grounds of the estate by the
cream of New York Society. Clermont’s colonial heritage
served as the theme of the reception. Among the bridal party,
serving as a flower girl, was a granddaughter of President Franklin
D. Roosevelt.
Since 1996 Clermont has welcomed couples
to experience their special day on the grounds and gardens of
this beautiful National Historic Landmark property.
The museum staff look forward to working with you, your event
planner or caterer to make your wedding day a memorable one.
Six
outdoor locations on the Livingston estate are available to rent
for wedding receptions or other private events. Additional locations
are available for wedding ceremonies. Depending upon the location,
we can accommodate between 50 and 300 guests. Rental fees range
from $400 to $2,000 for wedding receptions, depending upon the
location and the time of day. Fees are not based on the size of
the guest list or the number of hours the site will be in use.
Clermont does not use an in-house caterer, nor do we require use
of a sole-source caterer. We do provide a list of caterers who
have successfully produced events at Clermont during the past
five years, but welcome the opportunity to work with any caterer
of your choosing.
We encourage couples who are considering
an outdoor venue to visit Clermont. Click here for a Virtual
Tour of Clermont Historic Site. If you would like to meet
with our special events coordinator while you are at Clermont
you may call Roberta Nolan at (518) 537-4240 to schedule an appointment.
We
will also provide at your request our wedding packet. The packet
includes detailed information about each of our rental locations,
fee information, copies of required permits, a map of the property,
lists of service providers and answers to frequently asked questions.
