Amazon continues its donations of products


Smile Amazon continues to donate thousands of products that are already being distributed throughout the country as part of the Red Cross RESPOND plan against COVID-19; a specific plan of action and comprehensive response launched in March 2020 to respond to the situation generated by the pandemic from all areas of the Red Cross (Emergencies, Social Inclusion, Health, Education, Employment and Environment). The total value of the two product donations made amounts to more than EUR 167,000. It mainly includes products for the home, cleaning and personal care, clothing for children and adults, electronic devices, toys, school supplies and furniture.



From its central warehouse in Madrid, the Red Cross will distribute the products throughout the peninsula to families that are in a situation of social exclusion, many of them seriously affected by the current crisis. This is the second in a series of donations that will continue over the coming months and is part of the growing number of collaboration initiatives between Amazon and the Red Cross that have been reinforced and expanded during the COVID-19 emergency.

Many of the products we have received are key for families to support their children in this difficult situation in which we live and ensure that no one is left behind in these times of so much uncertainty. Now more than ever, the commitment of committed companies such as Amazon and volunteer activities are vital for the present and future of Spanish society”, explained Javier Senent, president of the Spanish Red Cross.

"Our capacity for social impact is much greater by working together at different levels and creating synergies to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable people, carrying out awareness-raising actions and humanitarian technology projects to improve people's lives."


During the COVID emergency, Amazon has supported the Red Cross RESPONDE plan with €2.5 million. This is the largest operation in the history of this humanitarian organization that has assisted more than 3,900,000 people and in which more than 68,000 volunteers have collaborated. A donation button with Amazon Pay was also enabled, so that its customers could contribute quickly and safely and in April 2020 the #AmazonEnCasaFest was organized through the Amazon Prime Video social networks to raise additional funds and that had the disinterested participation of more than 40 top-level artists.


Red Cross and Amazon have worked hand in hand with Accenture to launch an Alexa skill with the elderly in mind, since it allows them to perform a series of exercises and contact family and friends. In addition, this skill allows its users to make donations, obtain tips for stress management and prevention of contagion, and information on how to become a volunteer. Lastly, the “Donate a toy” initiative has made it possible to collect nearly 7,000 toys donated by customers and manufacturers that have been distributed to families across the country as part of the Christmas campaign.
