Steamboat Days at Clermont
1807 - 2007
Throughout the 2007 season, Clermont will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the maiden voyage of Robert Fulton’s North River Steamboat. This historic voyage took place on August 17, 1807, including a stopover at Clermont’s own dock. The boat was welcomed by local people, dressed in their best and waving handkerchiefs at this strange new invention.
Clermont will celebrate this landing with a two-day steamboat extravaganza on Saturday August 18, 11am – 10 pm & Sunday August 19, 11 – 5 pm.
The public is invited to this celebratory event at the historic Livingston Estate. The two day
celebration will include: Steamboat demonstrations, re-enactors, fireworks, fun for the kids, educational talks, vendors, traditional music and demonstrations of all kinds.
Exhibitions of steam vessels will be featured. A craft tent for children will instruct youngsters in crafts and skills of the steamboat era. A scavenger hunt and contests will be featured along with special tours, costumed interpreters and plenty of fun! All this topped off with fireworks at sunset.
All this fun and excitement for the fee of $7.00 per vehicle.
Volunteers are welcome! Call Kjirsten at 537-4240.
