Clermont State Historic Site is located on the east shore of the Hudson River in the southwestern corner of Columbia County, New York, within the Town of Clermont. The historic site is located on the border of Columbia and Dutchess, midway between the Kingston - Rhinecliff and Rip Van Winkle bridges. Clermont is approximately 50 miles south of Albany and 100 miles north of New York City.

The main entrance to Clermont State Historic Site is at the intersection of N.Y. Route 9-G and Columbia Co. Route 6. Route 9-G forms the eastern border of the property; the Hudson River borders the estate on the west. The nearest population center is the Village of Tivoli one mile south of the historic site in Dutchess County. Several restaurants, a pizzeria and a deli are located within the village. Lodging, dining, shopping and gas stations are also located in the nearby communities of Germantown, Hudson, Red Hook and Rhinebeck -- all within 15 miles of Clermont.

Directions From New York City and Points South
     Take the Taconic State Parkway to the exit for Red Hook and Rhinebeck (Route 199). Turn left after exiting, onto Route 199 west. Proceed on 199 through the Village of Red Hook. About one mile past Red Hook, at the traffic light, turn right onto Route 9-G north. Proceed approximately six miles north. The entrance to Clermont will be on the left side of the road, about 1/4 mile after you enter Columbia County. Follow signs to the main parking lot.

     Visitors traveling on the New York State Thruway should take the Kingston exit (Exit 19). After exiting bear right and follow the signs for the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge. After crossing the Hudson River turn left at the second traffic light, onto Route 9-G north. Take 9-G north approximately eight miles to the entrance to Clermont.

Directions From the Capital District and Points North
     Take the New York State Thruway south to the Catskill Exit (Exit 21). Turn left after going through the toll plaza, then left again immediately after Passing under a highway bridge, onto Route 23 east. Take Route 23 across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. After crossing the bridge bear right onto Route 9-G and proceed south approximately ten miles (you will pass Olana State Historic Site). Turn right at the entrance to Clermont, which is about four miles south of the traffic light in Germantown.

Directions From Boston and Points East
     Take the Massachusetts Turnpike to the Berkshire Spur of the New York State Thruway . Take the exit for the Taconic State Parkway (Exit B-2). Go south on the Taconic State Parkway to the Route 82 exit; turn right onto Route 82 west. Continue heading west at the Bells Pond traffic light (the highway becomes Routes 9 & 23 at this point) past Columbia-Greene Community College. At the approach to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge, about a mile past the college, bear left onto Route 9-G. Proceed south on Route 9-G approximately ten miles to the Clermont entrance.
